Book Description

*** Book 1.5 of the Mythrian Realm. Be sure to read Breaking the Nexus before this! Look for Waking the Phoenix, the highly anticipated sequel to Breaking the Nexus, coming soon! ***

Nothing is more dangerous than a warrior unleashed.
When Sentinels begin dying under mysterious circumstances, the deaths are believed to be unrelated. Only one man sees the truth: an unknown enemy is targeting the elite group of warriors and no one is safe. As a panther Chimerae, Achaius Rilke recognizes the signs of an unpredictable predator. The only person he can trust is Saia Makan, the tempestuous Sorceri who has driven him crazy for years. But when the killer has set his sights on Saia, Achaius faces the hunt of his life.

My Review:

First I want to thank Ms. Avalon for giving me a copy of Warrior Unleashed to review.  I enjoyed reading this and Breaking the Nexus, as well as looking forward to reading Waking the Phoenix.

I will say that I was a bit confused at first reading this book, as it didn't tie into Breaking the Nexus.  But I was happy to  get more into on the Sentinels and Mythrian Realm.  And it ties right into the story of Breaking the Nexus.
I loved the details of the Mythrian Realm and life there.  The story of Saia and Achaius was believable and HOT!  The feelings the characters felt were conveyed superbly.

About the Author:

I am a wife, a programmer, and now an author. I have an adorable mini Schnauzer and more books than I have room for. I love reading romance because no matter what may be happening in my life, I can always count on my books to end happily ever after. The day I met my husband was the day I truly began believing in happily ever after. After hearing me complain a few too many times that I had "nothing" to read despite the hundreds of paperbacks scattered around the house, my husband began suggesting I write my own stories. When I finally took his advice I discovered that although I enjoy my day job as a software engineer, my true calling is to be an author.
My sister drilled into me an appreciation for fantasy and mythology, something I try to bring to my books. My debut novel, "Breaking the Nexus", started as a book written for NaNoWriMo and has grown to so much more. It was the conduit that introduced me to a fantastic group of independent authors who have changed my life in unimaginable ways.
When I'm not writing, I've found a passion for blogging and interviewing fellow authors. I also love reading (of course!), baking, crochet, sewing sock monkeys, playing video games, and all sorts of random crafts. I have an incurable love of rubber duckies and stuffed animals, and I believe nobody should have to grow up if they don't want.

Something Extra:

Rhonda Plumhoff, the cookbook author of Literary Chocolate, A Second Helping, created these two recipes for Aneesa Price’s characters, Caroline (from Finding Promise) and Miss Suzette (from Coffin Girls):

Chocolate Mocha Crème Brulee

Caroline had led the life of a high society daughter and wife, one that was filled with soul-destroying emotional abuse. Upon the death of her husband, she finds that she is financially incapable of supporting herself and flees New York without a plan or destination in mind. Her travels lead her to Promise, a small town on the New England coast.
Following instinct, she settles in Promise and begins to explore her new found independence and the pleasurable side of love with ruggedly handsome local, Luke Edwards.
Her financially privileged upbringing had provided her with the opportunities to travel and with her love for cooking; she shares culinary delights from all over the world with the willing residents of promise. But her new-found contentment is shattered as past resurrects itself and she needs to find the courage to face it before she can truly re-build her life.
Ingredients
* 2 3/4 cups heavy cream
* 1/2 cup granulated sugar
* 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 1/4 cup prepared espresso (strong black coffee)
* 8 egg yolks
* 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
* 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, for topping
Directions
Preheat the oven to 325° degrees. Place 8, (6 ounce) ramekins on a baking sheet.
In a heavy sauce pan over medium heat, add cream, sugar, vanilla and espresso. Stir to dissolve the sugar, and heat until cream begins to simmer. Remove from heat. Place egg yolks in a large bowl, and slowly whisk in the hot cream mixture, about 2 tablespoons at a time, until you have added approximately half the cream mixture to the yolks. At this point, pour in the remaining cream mixture and whisk smooth. Stir in chocolate chips, and let rest for 5 minutes. Stir the mixture until chocolate is smooth and creamy. Pour evenly into ramekins, cook for 30 minutes in preheated oven. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 45 minutes at room temperature. Refrigerate for 6 hours. Before serving; move the oven rack to the top position in the oven, preheat oven to broil. Sprinkle the tops of each Crème Brulee with granulated sugar, evenly coating. Place ramekin on baking
sheet, and place under the broiler until sugar bubbles and turns a light caramel brown. Keep an eye on sugar it bubbles fast and you do not want it to burn. Serve immediately.
Yields 8 servings

Voodoo Chocolate Beignets

This endearing Voodoo, Cajun mama is a favorite character of many who read Coffin Girls. She rules the kitchen of Papillion Plantation, the majestic mansion of the witch-vampire sisters, with a wooden spoon and gruff affection. What’s more, she’s the human that grounds the powerful Coffin Girls and who encourages them to overcome the risky challenges that they face, including those that touch their magical hearts.
Miss Suzette is known for her Voodoo, or ‘kitchen magic’ but she is also a whizz with culinary creations believing that food replenishes the soul and nourishes the heart.
Ingredients
* 1/2 teaspoon dry yeast
* 1/4 cup warm water
* 3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
* 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
* 1/4 cup granulated sugar
* 1/3 cup heavy cream
* 1/4 cup hot water
* 1 egg, lightly beaten
* 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* Vegetable oil for frying
* Confectioners’ sugar for dusting
Directions
Before you begin to deep fry beignets, fill pan with oil until 3 inches deep, heat vegetable oil to 350° degrees in a deep heavy pot, over medium-high heat (or deep fryer).
Sprinkle yeast over warm water in a small bowl, stirring to dissolve. Let stand for 5 minutes. In a large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, heavy cream, hot water, egg, shortening, and salt; stir in yeast mixture. Mix dough just until combined and smooth. Let dough rest in bowl, covered with a clean kitchen towel, 30 minutes. Transfer dough to a well-floured surface. Roll dough out to about 1/4-inch thickness and cut into 2-inch squares. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let dough rise in a warm, draft-free area, about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Fry beignets until golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes, turning as soon as they brown on one side. Remove with tongs or a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain. While still warm, give beignets a generous dusting of confectioners’ sugar.
Yields 20 beignets

    Book Description:

    The long way home could be the shortest road to ruin.

    The king of Scotland is in a snit. Which means Britt MacKinnon, proud Captain of the King’s Guard, has an onerous task: fetch Alexander’s favorite paramour back to the royal bed—now. Never mind that the crown should be about the business of getting a legitimate heir. Especially since England’s Edward I would love nothing more than to seize an empty Scottish throne.
    When the handsome soldier appears on her doorstep, Geneen Armstrong has to think quickly. Her twin lies abed in her cottage, pregnant with the king’s bastard. If the barren queen learns the truth, the foolish girl’s life won’t be worth a farthing.
    She must somehow transform her graceless, plain-spoken self into her vivacious, talented sister. Then, after the court is convinced she carries no child, use her herbal knowledge to sour the king’s taste for her sister’s company—for good.
    By the time Britt realizes this unusually articulate, ungodly stubborn woman is the wrong woman, tendrils of attraction have already tightened into a bond. A bond that will be tested when the king’s unexpected death puts Scotland’s very destiny at stake—and unleashes an ever-tangling web of court intrigues, secrets…and lies.
    Warning: Men in kilts, Scottish accents and a feisty heroine contained herein. A more perfect historical romance doesnae exist.

    My Review:
     I was really taken with this story.  I mean whats not to like when a handsome soldier comes to retrive the King's mistress back to court only to discover that he has grabbed her twin instead!
    They may look alike, but once you are around Geneen for more than five minutes, you know she is not Greer (the King's Mistress).  As Britt continues to take Geneen to court he falls for her, as much as he disliked her sister and Geneen falls in love with him.
    So this story takes on a journey of love, betrayal, and traveling alone as a lady to find her sister.  Learning other secrets of the court proves somewhat interesting as well.
     But I love how Ms. Blair put so much History and detail into the story.  I loved the extra History lesson, when the king died and they had the funeral and processional.

    If you are a Historical Romance fan, then this book is a definite must!

Review: Winning the Wallflower by Eloisa James

Book Description:

It could only happen in a fairy tale.
Lady Lucy Towerton:

Plain and tall. (According to the lady herself.)
Titled and irreproachably proper. (According to her fiancé.)
Until, overnight, she becomes
Lady Lucy Towerton:

Heiress. (Thanks to an aged aunt’s bequest.)
Belle of the ball. (So say the fortune hunters of the ton.)
In charge of her own destiny (finally!), Lucy breaks her engagement and makes up her mind never to be proper again…

NOTE: This novella is related to "The Duke Is Mine" and includes Olivia Lytton.

My Review

Good novella to go with the series. Although I felt that right when it was getting good, it just stopped. The story jumps to several years in the future to where Cyrus and Lucy are telling their story to their children.

Review: Temporary Arrangement by Karen Erickson

Temporary Arrangement (The Renaldis, #0.5)Amazon
(You can get this Novella for free currently)

Book Description:

 "Look, but don't touch "

"The Renaldis"

Alone and broke, Paige Stewart can t believe her good luck. Who hires a virtual stranger out of a New York City coffee shop to care for their adorable grandson? Apparently Claudia Renaldi does.
Widower Matteo Renaldi isn't pleased that his mother found a replacement nanny so soon after he fired the last one. Yet little Matty takes to Paige like no other nanny before. And Matteo can t deny he s quite taken with her as well. She's beautiful. Sweet. And far, "far" too young for him.
There's something about the gorgeously sexy Matteo that fills Paige with longing to break through his wall of formality and touch his softer side. But no one knows better than she that crushing on her boss is one thing. Acting on those feelings is forbidden. Foolish.
Inevitable
Warning: Sexy, grumpy Italian hero who is determined to keep his walls up. No matter how much his son s sweetly beautiful nanny drives him to distraction.

My Review:

After you read the book description you have pretty much read the book.  Don't get me wrong, its a good story and I was all into it.  But then BAM! the story was over,  because this is just a novella.  If you want the true story you have to buy Tempted by her Boss.
There really isn't much to say for this review.  Good story, super short and that's it.  You actually have to buy the real book to get any story and I am not doing that at this time.  So that is the end of this series for me!  Thanks for a free book!

ARC Review: Something Great by M. Clarke

Something Great (Something Great, #1) Release date is July 24th.  Goodreads

Book Trailer:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1Z9xLucouc&feature=em-upload_owner

Book Description:

 This is a New Adult romance novel recommended for ages 18+ due to sexual content and mature subject matter.

She didn’t know what she was missing…until he found her.

Maxwell Knight was positively trouble, dangerously good-looking, and seductively charming. He was everything Jeanella didn’t need in her life. Only Max didn’t see it that way. His pursuit was relentless, making her even more determined to push him away. All she wanted was security, a career, and love that was everlasting.

Fresh out of college, life was simple and plain for Jeanella Mefferd, but she liked it that way. Every part of her life was smooth sailing; her friends, her job, and even the guy she’d started dating. Then one night, while at dinner with her best friend, she spotted someone who made her feel things she’d never felt before just by his mere presence—dangerous, heart pounding, breathless heat. Thinking she would never see him again, she brushed it off, but when she started to run into him unexpectedly, all she could think of was how he made her feel with his sweet flirtations. Everything about Maxwell Knight screamed trouble, especially when she found out he was her new boss’s son. Now, heading to a New York fashion show she’d dreamt about since she was a child, would she be able to focus on her career instead of Max, who had been scheduled to attend with her? As much as she tried to forget their encounters, his good looks, charm, smooth words, and determination to win her over gravitated her toward him. The next thing she knew, he was utterly consuming her, mind and body, and in places she’d never thought possible. Would she be willing to step over the boundary and risk her safety net? Was she willing to take advice from her best friend and love hard and risk getting hurt, rather than not really love at all and possibly miss out on finding something great?

My Review

Loved, Loved!
I enjoyed Something Great so very much. I was drawn into this story, its so well written.
It had a bit of "Pretty Woman" (movie) feel to it at one point.
Of course, It follows the new trend of rich, super hot guy falls for plain young woman working for him and when they have some miscommunication, one of them runs away only to not speak to each other for a few days before the truth comes out.
Even through it is similar to some other stories out now, this one is still awesome. And I recommend it to all romance lovers. This story also has some hot moments, sad moments and others you just want to hurry through to get to more good stuff.

My Review:

I was given this ARC collection in exchange for honest review. I truly enjoyed reading this wonderful collection of short stories to go with the series.
With this collection, we are getting to know the main characters from the series a little better. If you haven't read Forged by Greed yet, that is ok you will not be lost.
The author is good with details! I was in love with the "chapter" of Jatred learning to shift!! amazing attention to details, I could feel what he was feeling.

I gave four stars, cause I felt it was missing something but not quite sure what.

Review: Secret pleasures by Thea Devine

 Amazon
B&N

Book Description

Marrying a much older man against her will, innocent Lady Genelle Tisne has little knowledge of true passion . Yet even as she yearns to escape her unfulfilling life, she soon finds herself caught in a scandal that rocks strait-laced London society when her husband is found murdered.
As the prime suspect, Genelle is determined to find the real killer.  She hires enigmatic private investigator Rulan Roak... and is swept into a secret world of forbidden temptations and sensual abandon, where every seduction has its pleasure-and its price.

 My Review:

First, let me say that I spent all day trying to find some graphics I wanted to post for this thread.  But I kept getting distracted.  So I wasted all day, ended up not getting anything done!

Ok,  This book was HOT HOT. and steamy!!  Full of mystery, murder, Sex, Sex and a smidge of romance.
When Genelle's husband is killed she tries to find the murderer and why "he" wanted to frame her.  In the process she finds out about his secret life and how much she truly enjoys sex.  Genelle goes from meek and quiet to demanding and confident.  And finds herself in all kinds of trouble, from being charged (almost) with murder to being trapped in the House of Corrections!
This book was steamy, and did I say HOT!  I put down the book a few times,  I had to cool off you know!!  But this is not for everyone.  If you don't like alot of details of sex or even alot of sex in your stories then this is not for you.  Very super explicit!
