Excerpt:

Sean jogged over with the bat and held it out for me, grinning. “Pick your pitcher, Allie-O.”

The smirk on Ethan's face was a challenge, and I couldn't resist. “Ethan has the ball, he can pitch to me.”

He made a big show of stretching and winding up before he finally tossed the ball at me.

I smacked the ball over the pool house, and Sean started shouting and cheering, making me smile. Ethan shook his head, but he was smiling. He clearly thought I would be an easy out.

I made it all the way to the final round, kicking Sean and Jeff out of the game. I'd played softball and run track all through school to pad my transcripts.

“You gonna let her win, E?” Jeff called, winking at me from the picnic table where he sat drinking a beer.

Ethan chuckled, showing off those damn dimples. He looked down at the ball in his hands and back up at me with a grin. “If I do, will you let me take you out?”

I snorted, trying to look braver than I felt. “Not a chance.”

“Wait a sec. I like this. Let's make a wager,” he said.

The guys were all hooting and hollering at me, my face was no doubt crimson.

“What do I get if I win?” I bit my lip, feeling all their eyes on me.

“I'm thinking, hang on,” He held up his finger, his brow furrowed in thought. His eyes widened with excitement, and I knew I would regret whatever he had to say.

“If I win, I get a kiss.” If it was possible, my cheeks grew even redder. They were all laughing and making cat calls now.

“And, if I win?” I looked up at his face.

He looked at me for a second, considering. “If you win, I won't ever ask you out again.”

This earned a chorus of “Yeah, right” and “No way” from the guys.

My mouth fell open, I had not been expecting that, but his face was sober. The laughing around us fell away for a second, and I could only stare at him feeling the color drain from my face. His expression remained solemn, and he met my gaze head on.

I nodded stiffly, and swallowed. “All right.”

His grin came back in full force. “Oh, and Al?”

I raised my eyebrows at him.

“I won't lose.”

Excerpt:

Jackson crouched low, hiding behind Otava’s branches. The river flowed quickly enough that little effort was required to move the wooden canoe forward. The Hunter softly guided them to the middle and occasionally steered away from rocks, branches, or logs obstructing the smooth path forward.
The jungle around them remained still with only the sounds of birds and small, scampering creatures echoing within. It was peaceful and calm, but the companions felt watched, like at any moment some danger would bound out at them from behind the green, leafy shadows. But it was not from within the woods where the dangers truly lay. Danger lurked within the waters where little torrents of ripples slowly penetrated the surface, increasing in size, speed, and number. The canoe gradually began to sway lightly until the front and back end rocked up and down, not in a rhythmic, parallel motion but in a jagged, chaotic tumult as if an ominous war was waging underneath the water, and the heat of the battle was moving up from the deep toward the canoe. The Hunter turned his gaze from the woods and the curvy bend ahead to the waters underneath and then glanced behind him.
     “Hold on!” The Hunter commanded.
“What’s happening?” Jackson gripped the sides of the canoe.
“Ursa Major! I knew I should’ve brought my harpoon!” Otava grabbed a spear instead and searched the water for a target.
Merope was close now. She sprinted out of the tree line onto the shore just behind the increasingly warring waves thrashing onward toward the powerless travelers. By the time she recognized exactly who she was following, it was too late to warn him. As The Hunter stood, facing a beast, Merope cried out—first softly in recognition and then loudly in warning:
     “Rigel? RIGEL!”

Caleb on his journey and see if he’ll continue his life in solitude or if he finally finds the love of

She breaks the kiss and raises her face to look right at me. “Give you a minute. I thought you wanted me to ride you, Caleb?”
The little minx. “Yes, I do want you to ride me, but if you keep doing that, this is going to be over before it even starts.”
She gets this sexy smile on her face. “See, I don’t think you give yourself enough credit Caleb. I’ll agree that there are times when I want it to last forever, but there are times that it doesn’t matter how long it lasts, just as long as the ride to the top is worth it.”
Cocking my head to the side, “Oh, really?”
She nods her head. “Yes, really.”
“Well then, I guess you better hang on for that ride.” I wrap my arms around her, holding her tight so she can’t move and thrust up hard. She’s in the perfect position for what I have planned.

Excerpts:
The sun was starting to set and I couldn’t stop yawning. I honestly felt like I could have slept for days.
“Do you wanna come over for a little while?”
When I faced him he looked so hopeful. I laughed at his pouting lip and pushed against his chest.
“Okay, just for a little while.”
I secretly prayed that tonight would be a Beth free night. When we pulled into the driveway and I saw her playing basketball with Mark and Cody, I sighed. Over the roar of the bike I figured Zander couldn’t hear my disappointment.
I know they’re friends but I felt like she was always there. We never got time alone because she seemed to always show up. I don’t know how many times she walked in on us making out on the couch or against the counter.
She looked up when I removed the helmet and handed it to Zander.
“Hey Ry…it’s good to see you. Our boy here has been a fuckin buzz kill the last few days. I think he was suffering from ‘Riley’s Hot Ass’ withdrawal.” I smiled at Cody. Leave it to him to break the silence.
Zander grabbed my hand and pulled me toward the stairs.
“Dude where are you going? You gonna join the game?”
Zander laced his fingers with mine, “Nah Mark, tonight I’m all Riley’s. Catch you guys tomorrow.”
I felt a flutter in my stomach and smiled up at him. When he winked back at me I swooned. God damn, he had me right there in that moment; I was giddy. All it took was for him to make me feel important to him.
An hour later we were snuggled on his couch with a movie in the DVD player. He threw a blanket over us and I was wrapped up in his arms.
“Are we gonna be okay baby? Can we move forward from this together?” I nodded my head and he kissed my neck just behind my ear. “I love you, Ry. I felt my heart race as I turned in his arms. I looked up into his beautiful face and he smiled down at me.  I traced his jaw with my fingertip and ran it across his lower lip.
Swallowing past the thickness within my throat, I took his face into my hands. “I love you too Zander.” I brought his lips to mine and we began to kiss each other with such passion. I could have kissed him for hours because the gentleness he expressed melted me from the inside out. I felt desired and treasured as he made love to my mouth with his.
“Say it again Riley, please.” He watched me intensely.
“I love you.”
He smiled and closed his eyes, “Damn, if that isn’t the greatest thing I’ve heard in a long time.”
I lightly laughed, “You’re so easy, you know that?”
He shifted me underneath him, “If you remember right I was the one that made you wait.” I raised my eyebrows waiting for him to continue. “And it was pure hell to restrain myself.”
Our lips met once more and we were once again lost in each other. “Stay with me tonight…I want you in my arms.”
“You just wanna get laid.”
He chuckled, “No, I wanna make love to you though.” He pushed forward against me and I could feel his arousal. “Will you spend the night with me Riley?”
I nodded my head and pulled his mouth back to mine. There was no going back and I wanted it…I wanted him. I wanted all of him, his heartache and smiles, his laughter and tears. I was going to hold on tightly because Zander made my heart flutter and my knees wobble and damn it if that didn’t feel amazing.
He picked me up and carried me to his bed with my legs wrapped tightly around his waist. There was little talking and it was perfect. We scrambled to remove each other’s clothes and to feel each other without restrictions. He left me to reach for a condom and I instantly missed his warmth. I shuddered instantly when I felt him return and his body pressed against me.

Review(by Angela)

Scarred by Love follows the relationship of Riley and Zander, two college students who have been burned in the past by love. Riley is a college junior. She just got out of an abusive relationship and is scared to move on. Will her fear of more abuse and her lack of trust in men allow her to miss out of a relationship that could be her everything? Will Zander be able to show her that not all men are abusive?

Zander is such a great guy but his best friend Beth is something else. Beth has a boyfriend named Mark but she touches Zander like her life depends on it. Zander has been friends with Beth for so long, he doesn’t realize how his relationship with Beth looks in the eyes of other people. Will Zander be able to let Beth slide into second place for Riley? Will his relationship with Riley be more important than his relationship with Beth?

I really like this book. I thought it was well written with little to no mistakes. This book showed us just how much trust is important in a relationship. When you are in love with someone who has a best friend of the opposite sex, trust can be the only thing that saves a relationship. This book also shows just how important brothers are to their sisters.

The secondary characters were awesome for the most part. Carson and Kate were so funny at times. Their relationship was fun to follow as well as Riley and Zander.

I recommend this book to those of you who like to read about college students, hot guys in bands, or who like reading about overprotective big brothers.
