Once upon a time, that’s how most of these stories start. But this isn’t one of those stories… Sure, it has the heroine and the hero but they’re not as you would expect them. Both of them have a bloodlust, one different from the other.

Quill was born and raised as a cold killer who takes enjoyment from the kill. Nero is the son of a Viking and a 1500-year-old vampire whose never been denied his pleasures before.

Until he meets Quill. He forces her to exchange her life for Rose’s, his indentured servant and Quill’s little sister. Drawn by her fearlessness and strength he has to have her but such a woman cannot be possessed. Both must learn to give up their carefully afforded control to let the other in. Only then may they have their happily forever after.

Sink your teeth into this dystopic re-telling of Beauty and the Beast and satiate your booklust.

“I thought I might choke and die on your blood, but because I’ve already ingested some I would come back to life… like you.” She looked up at, her eyes wide with the panic that had gripped her before looking down at her feet again and taking a deep breath. She hated feeling vulnerable in front of him like this. But most importantly she hated not having all the answers like he seemingly did.
“The process is a little more complicated than that, but you would be temporarily held in a state between beings until I decided to claim you.”
“And would you have?” She looked up, her voice quiet as she spoke. There was an underlying fear in her question. A part of her was repulsed by the idea and yet the rest of her longed to know he would have her. She needed to know he would keep her even if she weren't the feisty human woman he claimed he was so intrigued by. When had she decided that his opinion of her was that important? When had she decided at all to allow a man to determine her fate?
Nero looked back at her unflinchingly as he moved closer to her, reaching out and tracing her lips gently before bringing his hand up along her jaw toward her ear. His fingers toyed with the hair tucked behind her ear before he shook his head at her.
“I would have to, I’m afraid to admit.”
She stared back at him in surprise, unsure of what she was supposed to say. She was far too distracted by his lingering fingers and how they gently caressed her skin, moving along it and forcing it to blossom into gooseflesh.
Bringing herself back to the moment she swallowed hard, forcing some kind of sound from her lungs, “why?”
“Because you have enraptured me in the most illogical way. Never before has a human woman been able to hold my attention for so long. Something about you calls to me like a familiar lullaby I once knew.” He paused, seeming to gather his thoughts. “My life will last forever but trifling with a mortal can feel like an eternity in hell. Humans by nature are far too slow, uncultured, undomesticated and someone my age doesn’t have the time to break something like that. But then I met you… You, curious you, who fights back, who questions me, who doesn’t want me in the way all women who have ever looked at me have. I don’t understand it, but I want to and worst of all I want you in a way I have never wanted anyone. I don’t need others, but I need you. I feel myself longing for it and whether it would be against your will or not I would change you because I cannot live without you.”
“One day you will have to.” She whispered quietly, staring at him with a bewilderment he had grown so accustomed to.
“Not today.” He whispered back, his voice much lower than hers as he leaned in and caught her lips with his. It was a bruising kiss that she felt all the way down into her toes. It ached in a way that touched her heart and soul. She felt it flow through all her veins and consume her like a fire.

Excerpt
George and James dropped back to re-join their father and as they discussed ranch business they kept their eyes on Laura up ahead. She had just crossed the tree line and had disappeared from their sight. Joseph had just opened his mouth to call her to stay in sight when they heard her blood curdling scream.
The three men wasted no time spurring their horses into a gallop and headed in the direction the scream had come from.
Laura had dismounted and was on the ground next to a small bundle which rested half on and half off the track. Tears flooded her cheeks and she was shaking uncontrollably. When she spotted her father she jumped from the ground and raced towards him. Joseph was off his horse in a flash and folded her into his arms. While she buried her face in her father’s chest George and James dismounted and moved to check the small bundle which they could now see was the body of a young girl.
“Pa, you better come fast!” called George.
Joseph peeled Laura away from him and reached inside his pocket for a cloth to wipe her tear stained face. Holding her hand he guided her to a nearby rock and gently encouraged her to sit. He grabbed his canteen of water from his saddle bag and handed it to her “Drink Laura. Don’t move darlin’ we’ll be right over here” She gulped thirstily from the canteen while she continued to sob.
Joseph approached his sons and couldn’t stifle the gasp which escaped him as he looked at the ‘bundle’ for the first time. He could now see it was a young girl, about the same age as Laura. Her clothing had been torn to the waist and across the once creamy skin of her back were at least two dozen bloody welts.
Joseph removed his hat and immediately began firing off instructions to his shocked sons. “James, fetch blankets, water and as many clean cloths as you can find! George, hobble the horses so they don’t wander. Keep an eye out for Ben with the board so he doesn’t run over us”
The boys answered in unison “Yes, Pa!” and raced off to complete their tasks.
As the boys followed his orders Joseph assessed the young girl’s wounds further. I will get the bastards who did this! he vowed to himself.
Just at that moment, Ben, the youngest son, drove up with the buckboard and their supplies. Seeing his family moving around ahead, his father attending to something on the ground, he brought the horses to a stop.
“Ben! We have a badly injured girl. Clear a space in the buckboard and lay some blankets so when we are ready we can take her home to Ma!” called out James.
Ben jumped down and began re-arranging the rear of the buckboard. “What’s happened James?”
“Not sure yet, we just came up on her. Pa and George are with her now”
Where’s Laura?” asked Ben concerned for his sister.
“Just over yonder on a rock. She’s very upset, was her that found the girl! After the board is ready go sit with her, I need to get these supplies to Pa”
James hurried back to where Joseph and George were waiting with the girl. “Ben’s arrived Pa, he’s clearin’ a space in the buckboard and is going to calm Laura”
“Thanks son. She is bad. Looks like she has a broken leg from the angle it’s at, a broken arm and all them welts, cuts and bruises!” We need to patch her up as best we can and get her to Ma”
“She’s lost a lot of blood Pa” commented George “Will she make it?”
“I don’t know son but we will do our best for her”
“Who would do this?” asked an angry James to no-one in particular.
“I have no idea” answered Joseph “but I intend to find out and get this little girl some justice!”
“Buckboard’s ready” shouted Ben
“Go find four pieces of wood to splint an arm and a leg” called George “be as quick as you can”
“On my way” called Ben running into the trees.
Joseph removed the lid from a canteen he’d been handed and poured water onto a cloth. As gently as he could he began to clean the wounds and only then could they see the extent of the damage from the vicious attack.
With her back wounds cleaned up a little the three men gently lifted her onto a blanket which was spread on the ground, turning her over as they did so.
They inhaled deeply when they saw the girl’s face. Both of her eyes were swollen shut. She had a large cut over one eye which would require stitches. Blood had seeped into her raven black hair and congealed which left her hair in a sticky, tangled mess. Her lip was split and her cheek badly bruised. Dirt and dust had combined with blood from her wounds to form a muddy mess over much of her body.
George quickly covered her with a spare blanket to protect her dignity but couldn’t help noticing her perfectly formed breasts and slim waist which brought a stirring to his loins.
Goddamn it George! What’s wrong with you? You are looking at a woman’s breasts and getting randy when you should be more concerned with her injuries! And you’re s’posed to be courtin’ Marybeth!
Joseph took clean cloths, doused them in water and proceeded to clean her face.
“Where do you want these Pa?” asked Ben holding up four good sized sticks.
“I’ll take them. Thanks Ben” said James “Go sit with Laura”

Bear Wanted by Julia Talbot Blog Tour & Giveaway

Bear Wanted
The Grizzly List
Book One
Julia Talbot

Genre: Gay, Bear Shifter, M/M PNR

Publisher: ARe Books

Date of Publication: July 1, 2015

ISBN: 9781943576166

Word Count: 20,000

Cover Artist: Erin Dameron Hill

Book Description:

He always wanted a bear to keep him warm at night…

Lane knows want he wants in a lover, but hasn’t been able to find the perfect bear of a man in his small Colorado hometown. So he turns to the Grizzly List, a regional personal ad service for bears and their lovers. He’s not sure what to expect when he meets Fin, but what he gets might be his perfect man.

Bear shifter Fin has been looking for someone with whom to spend his days, nights, and winter hibernation. He’s a happy guy, but needs someone who wants a big, burly, slightly dominant mate. When he meets Lane, Fin knows he’s found what he needs, but will he be able to convince Lane that they’re made for one another, in human form and bear?

Excerpt:

Bear wanted for cute bottom. Looking for 30-40yo bear, ddf, kind but firm. Seeking companionship/ relationship. Want to cook for you, cuddle, and explore physical possibilities. Hairy a must, uncut a plus. Send photos and response to inbox 4125.

Finley bit his lower lip, trying to decide if he should reply or not.
He hadn’t had the world’s best luck with personal ads. This was his first try on the Grizzly List, which his friend Egan assured him would be way better than Craigslist. They specialized in getting bears together with men who loved them.
Oh, it wasn’t that Fin didn’t want to have sex, but every ad he’d answered so far was just from someone who wanted a quick hookup, and they all wanted him to wear a leather harness and spank them.
That was an awful lot of work. Fin liked the idea of cuddling, and of someone pampering him a little. God knew he loved to play the hot and heavy game, but that came later. He hoped the guy who placed this ad really liked to cook, and maybe knew how to make a honey cake.
Oh, honey.
Fin attached two pictures of himself from the neck down, with his swim trunks on, and added a tiny message.
Love to cuddle, watch movies, hang out in the hot tub. Hairy, uncut, looking for long-term. Let’s meet.
His cheeks heated just typing “uncut” but that was the truth, and what this cute guy seemed to want, so what the heck? Fin took a deep breath and hit send, because he’d left his phone number in there, too. Wow. Okay.
Here went another try. He hoped it worked out better than the last few. If it didn’t, well, there was always hibernation.

#RedHotCandy Giveaway + Authors Share Their Sweetest Gifts

Ready to sweeten up your summer with something RED HOT
RED HOT CANDY, a collection of 22 all-new sweet to spicy romances,
is available for sale now. Welcome to release week!

Today we're sharing sweet tidbits from some of the authors
so you can get to know them a little better.
Here are the sweetest or most thoughtful gifts ever received.
We're also giving away a sweet gift. Check it out below!

Gillian Cherry
When I  was 16, my boyfriend gave me a jewelry box with something in every drawer. In the drawer marked "open last" was a beautiful opal pendant on a gold chain.

Layla Wilcox
My husband is a photographer. He buys me flowers often. Before we were married, we had a fight. He showed up at my door with tulips wrapped in a photo of the flowers he had taken earlier. That way I got to keep the flowers (and him) forever.

J. C. Valentine
The sweetest gift I ever received was my first Mother's Day present-- my son. He was born on Mother's Day, so every few years, we get to share the day.

Jo Raven
When we were about to get married, years ago, my husband knew I don't wear rings. He does wear a golden earring, so he bought me one the same, instead of a wedding ring. Now we both wear our matching earrings... heart emoticon

Pavarti K. Tyler
My husband got me an antique typewriter for our 5 year anniversary. It was heavy as hell and he lugged it from Vermont to surprise me.

Daizie Draper
My husband is my best gift ever! But the most random, sweetest gift I've ever gotten was in college when I was taking this marketing class. I had a group project due with an invented product or service and had to give a half hour presentation. My group consisted of me and two football players who never came to class. Well, I was really upset I had to shoulder this whole thing by myself because I'm shy as it is and not the best public speaker, and I was stressing out about it in my painting class. The Running Back took painting with me. He was super popular because he was amazing on the field and didn't know me from Eve, but he felt so bad for me, he spent three days during my 2-hour class helping me make my visual aids. Sooo unbelievably sweet and unforgettable!

Mira Bailee

After my husband and I went through an intense rough patch, he surprised me with a brand new laptop and told me, "This is only for your writing. I want you to get to finish your books." Fast forward to now, and I've published a complete series, have started on several more, and have tons of ideas waiting. Sounds romantic to me...wink emoticon

J.C. Andrijeski

When I first got to India I was terrified out of my friggin' mind (I moved there pretty impulsively after leaving my corporate job to just write for a few years). I was also horribly sick when I left and by the time I got to Dharamasala in the Himalayas, extremely jetlagged after about 36 hours of travel. All I had was the name of a hotel run by this nice family from Kasmir. Well, I got there and basically passed out. Like 10 hours later I woke up feeling terrible and wandered upstairs, dehydrated and shaky and pale, and this whole family surrounded me, horrified and worried about me. Something about the kindness of total strangers, you know? Especially when they don't speak your language, lol. They handed me water bottles, the mother cooked me dinner in their kitchen (the restaurant was long closed it was like 11pm at night and they'd been hanging out watching a movie) and basically they plopped me in front of the television and clucked over me and all but tucked me in after I was full. It made for a really nice landing in India and a lot of my fear vanished after that. smile emoticon

Alison Foster
After a very difficult trip overseas, I came back to find a spotless house and my bed covered in presents of all kinds—my husband’s way of welcoming me home.

Sarah M. Cradit
My best friend Shawn often sends me care packages from Louisiana, as a way of making me feel closer to New Orleans and the bayou (my favorite place, and where my book series is set).

Molly McClain
Aside from all the cute cards and things my kids make me, the one thing that jumps out as being super sweet was the gorgeous journal my mom bought me for Christmas this past year. I cried (for real) because it felt like my family finally "got" that I'm a writer and this is my thing now.
