Hold On Tight by Nicola Haken
Book: Take My Hand
Author: Nicola Haken
Genre: New Adult
Release Date:
Hosted by: Book Enthusiast Promotions
A figure from Dexter’s past has uprooted all the memories he has tried so desperately to bury… to forget. The terrible events of his past have been blown wide open once again, immersing him a pool of guilt deeper than he’s even experienced before.
Dexter feels powerless. The future he foolishly allowed himself to conceive is falling apart around him and there’s nothing he can do about it. But there’s one thing he can control – one thing he’s an expert at… blocking everything out. Losing all control, Dexter copes the only way he knows how – he dives so far into the well of addiction, the only thing that matters anymore is where his next fix is coming from.
Mission accomplished – there’s no one left. He’s successfully pushed everyone away. Nobody left to care about means no more guilt, right? You can’t hurt people who aren’t there…
But has he really pushed Emily as far away as he thinks he has? She’s given up everything for him – her home, her friends… her whole life. And she doesn’t regret a single thing. But can she save him from drowning, or has he finally sunk too far?
(Not suitable for under 18’s due to language, sexual content and explicit drug use)
This is my 5 star review for Hold on Tight by Nicola Haken for Eskimo Princess Book Reviews.
Hold on Tight picks up where Take my Hand left off. Dexter is hanging on by a thread. He is lost, broken, and pulling away from everyone and everything that he loves. He doesn’t want to fall off his sobriety but feels like he can’t cope with life if he doesn’t have a little something to take the edge off. Will he be able to deal with where is life is leading him? Will he make the mistake and push Emily away for good?
Emily is young and naïve. She doesn’t want to face the hard parts of her life. She is totally in love with Dexter and doesn’t know how to make his life better. She is doing all that she can to keep him happy and healthy. When things get tough and she finds herself in a position that scares her will she be able to keep her sanity? How will she cope with Dexter when she finds out he is using again, even just a little?
This book was very emotional for me. The author does a great job of jumping into a hard topic, drug usage. Hold on Tight is well written from alternating POV’s. We get to see how both Dexter and Emily’s sides of the story and how they cope with everything that is thrown their way. Where there was a lot of humor in Take my Hand, Hold on Tight is a more serious book. Don’t worry, Jeff, adds a lot of humor that will counter act the seriousness! He is refreshing and a character that I really liked. I look forward to reading the rest of the series to see where their story goes. I can’t wait to read about Jared and Rachel as well!

Nicola lives in Rochdale, England with her husband and four children (six if you include the dogs!) She is the author of New Adult/Contemporary romance novels Inevitable, Saving Amy and the Take My Hand series. When she is not busy playing with her imaginary book friends (or talking about them with real life friends!) she can usually be found carrying out her ordinary mum/housewife/all round slave duties. Oh, and if the kids ever ask, she moonlights as the Pink Power Ranger while they’re sleeping…
