Excerpt
Ignoring the
flames lapping over her bones, she pushed herself up right and slowly
followed the others. She had to stay conscious, she was the only one
who could sense the unmarked boundaries, she could feel that it was
close to where she stood, but couldn’t quite grasp where it was.
Looking to the others, she was surprised to see that they had stopped
and were now staring in her direction. From the looks on their faces
she thought they were mad at her. Maybe they had run out of patience,
she noticed Thomas drop his pack and come charging toward her. What
had she done now? Confused by his reaction, she looked around to find
that the road was moving on its own. It swayed one way then the other.
She heard Thomas shouting but couldn’t hear anything through the muffled
noises as the flames burst into her skull.
Author Bio:
HJ has always loved stories, and writing became a
natural progression to reading. Reading with her own children and then
at schools in a hope of capturing the hearts and minds of the young.
It wasn’t always about writing though, during her late teens, HJ stepped
up her Latin American dancing and travelled Europe.
