Review: Casting Shadows by Amanda DeWees

Buy on Amazon

Published November 2012

Book Description:

Ash Grove High School senior Joy Sumner and her model boyfriend, Tanner Lindsey, have defeated Melisande, the supernatural seductress who almost ended his life. Now, however, they learn that their unborn child may have been corrupted by Melisande’s evil. Suddenly the council that patrols supernatural activity at Ash Grove High is taking much too close an interest in Joy’s baby, and Raven, Melisande’s former assistant, may have a hidden agenda behind his friendly overtures. And living as an engaged couple with Joy’s father is challenging in its own way, even before Dr. Sumner begins to immerse himself in mysterious research. As Joy’s due date approaches, everyone from nosy journalists to supernatural doppelgangers wants to get close to her, and she and Tanner must decide how to keep her and their unborn daughter safe.

Meanwhile, a disastrous lapse of judgment drives a wedge between Joy’s best friends, Maddie and William. William turns for solace to the growing success of his band, Aerosol Cheese, and the prospect of a new romance in a highly unexpected place. But as his star is on the rise, Maddie glimpses something diabolical in the works. Somebody or something is targeting musicians, and William may be the next in the crosshairs. Now that he’s put Maddie out of his life, can she warn him in time that he is in danger?

My Review:

I was given this copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.
I must say its been awhile since I have been so hooked on a series. I just can't wait for book 3, I am also wrapped up in 2 other series as well.
But Casting Shadows was awesome. I read it in a little less than 2 days.
Love the new developments in this series but I was still left with a cliffhanger!!!
Maddie was awesome in book 2, she is really learning and growing. Joy was just a strong as in the first book. and I was happy to see Tanner become more confidant.
This time we had a little more going on-including a demon and shapeshifter.
I will say as much as I loved reading more about my favorite characters, I was not happy we saw so much of Shelia. I just didn't like her from the beginning, although she is important in this book.

5 stars all the way!  and I don't give 5 stars easily.

Review: A Kiss at Midnight by Eloisa James

A Kiss at Midnight (Fairy Tales, #1)Buy on Amazon

Description

Miss Kate Daltry doesn't believe in fairy tales . . . or happily ever after.
Forced by her stepmother to attend a ball, Kate meets a prince . . . and decides he's anything but charming. A clash of wits and wills ensues, but they both know their irresistible attraction will lead nowhere. For Gabriel is promised to another woman—a princess whose hand in marriage will fulfill his ruthless ambitions.
Gabriel likes his fiancée, which is a welcome turn of events, but he doesn't love her. Obviously, he should be wooing his bride-to-be, not the witty, impoverished beauty who refuses to fawn over him.
Godmothers and glass slippers notwithstanding, this is one fairy tale in which destiny conspires to destroy any chance that Kate and Gabriel might have a happily ever after.
Unless a prince throws away everything that makes him noble . . .
Unless a dowry of an unruly heart trumps a fortune . . .
Unless one kiss at the stroke of midnight changes everything.

My Review

At first this book was really hard to get into, I guess because it felt so predictable.  Or maybe I'm burnt out on Historical Romance.
But overall, the book and story were good.  I felt like at times the story was moving to slow, but then all would be fine because you needed the extra details.  I do like the fairy tale way of telling this story verses it being Historical Romance driven

Kate goes disguised as her(step)sister to meet the Prince, (sister's) fiance's uncle for approval of their marriage.  She falls in love with the prince, but he is betrothed to a princesses. But everyone gets their HEA.  Of course several people did notice that Kate did NOT look like her sister Victoria.
.

Kate has tons of personality and that is just awesome.  She meets her godmother, after 23 years, and its an instant "match".  She adores her godmother and her godmother adores her.  Her godmother, Henry, acts like the mother she never had and a true friend.
