I hang back until it’s clear all the immediate family members have transport before trying to spot a spare seat in one of the cars.

“You’re with me.” James has materialised at my side. He places his hand on my elbow and guides me in the direction of the car at the end of the line.

I glance about for any remaining strays but there are none. It’s to be just the two of us then.

I slide into the rear seat of the limousine, and James follows me in. His appearance is immaculate, quite beautiful, if somewhat severe in his black suit, white shirt, and black silk tie. He peruses my appearance and grins.

“Loving the outfit. Very sexy.”

I’m wearing my dress police uniform, a dark-navy fitted jacket, narrow knee-length skirt, white shirt, white-and-navy-chequered cravat, and a navy-blue cap bearing the Police Scotland crest. It rarely sees the light of day, my usual working attire is much more practical, but on such an occasion I felt it appropriate.

“Do you have handcuffs in your bag?” he enquires, his expression deceptively bland. “A truncheon, maybe?”

I wish.

“No,” I reply. “I didn’t think I’d need them today.”

“Ah, well, you never know,” he observes, shifting in his seat.

“You’re looking very smart very smart yourself,” I remark. “But then, I think you always do.” I appraise his suit critically—after all, fair’s fair. The unmistakable bulge behind the zip of his trousers makes me wish I hadn’t been quite so thorough. Again, my cheeks heat.

“You know,” he drawls, “I really am very pleased to see you.”

Above and beyond the call of duty…

Police officer Heather Douglas stops an attempted break in on a remote Scottish island then, in an act of spontaneous compassion, she sets in motion an astonishing chain of events.

A tearful reunion places Heather right at the heart of the formidable Clan McLeod when the Canadian exiles return to the Isle of Skye. After a family rift lasting half a century, the McLeods have every reason to be grateful to Heather. James McLeod is happy to show their appreciation but is he motivated purely by a sense of duty? Wealthy and successful, James is a Dom, used to getting what he wants. And he wants her.

As the sole police officer on the remote Highland isle, Heather Douglas has a job to do and a promotion to earn. Assertive in her work, she doesn’t welcome distractions. But Heather is shy and unsure in her personal life and James’ skilled touch both terrifies and intrigues her. Will she dare to take what he is offering?

Submission does not come easily for a woman trained to take charge. Or maybe it comes just a little too easily…

One thing is for sure - James McLeod proves hard to resist.

But can James protect Heather when she is at her most vulnerable? Especially when a dark and dangerous secret which has festered for years suddenly resurfaces and threatens to destroy all she has worked for.

If you enjoyed A Highland Odyssey you will not want to miss this page-turning sequel. Above and Beyond charts the turbulent and sensual love story of PC Heather Douglas and James McLeod against the beautiful, atmospheric backdrop of the Isle of Skye in the Scottish Highlands and the exciting, bustling city of Winnipeg in Alberta, Canada.
