Tudorphile Dolly thought that the night she spent on an astral plane with Henry VIII's six wives, learning their heretofore unknown secrets, was a one-time thing.  Not so!  In Seven Will Out, Dolly finds herself back in the ether with the women of later Tudor times:  Elizabeth I, ‘Bloody’ Mary, Bess of Hardwick, Mary, Queen of Scots, and Anne Hathaway Shakespeare, to name a few.  They too have secrets that will turn history on its head, and comic sass that will keep you laughing.
You've read all of the traditional, serious and romantic takes on the legendary Tudors.  Why not try your Tudors with a new and different twist?

Excerpt from Seven Will Out:  Chapter Fourteen, Menagerie and Query

My two welcoming companions were not, as on my last visit, those two medieval beauties, Margaret Beaufort and Elizabeth of York, grandmother and mother of Henry VIII.
On my last stay here, I had learned that this was a strictly ladies-only domicile. That is why I rapidly concluded that my companions, who were a couple of dogs, were likely also a couple of bitches. This is not as rancorous a statement as you may think.
You see, my stirring about had agitated two toy-size dogs that had been lying at the foot of the bed, setting them to romping and frolicking around. I settled them down a bit and then zeroed in for a closer look at my strange bedfellows.
One of them I had met before. I had not gotten its name, but I knew it to be the terrier that had belonged to Mary, Queen of Scots, at the time of her death. Said pup had attended Mary’s execution, hidden under her skirts; it barked piteously as it emerged, bloodstained, unable to decide whether to stay with the decapitated queen’s body or with her head. Eventually it mourned itself to death. My understanding had been that, after my last visit here, the Tudor denizens of this celestial way station would have vacated the premises for good. But if this dog—and another to boot— were present here, then likely the queen of Scots was again, or perhaps still, in residence. And heaven knew who else.
I looked a little closer at the other dog to try to figure out what, or at least, whose, it was. It appeared to be a sweet little bichon frise, and it looked back at me with head atilt and tail wagging.
“Por quoi!” a female voice called from without the room, and the little bichon perked up its ears.
“Por quoi to you too!” I sang out, playing for time as I tried to recall some of my high school French. As I did, I realized that I had just unintentionally given someone “what for.” I hoped this wouldn’t mean that my stay here this time was going to start off with me giving a bad impression. Wanting to take no chances, I got out of bed and began to smooth, as best I could, the wrinkles from my nightdress. As I did so, the person outside my room, getting closer by the sound of her voice, riposted my comment.
“Your French accent is execrable, Dolly!”
I wondered fleetingly if Marie Antoinette was in residence, but this was not the case. The lady who eventually rounded the doorway and entered my room was someone I had met before. She sported the Renaissance equivalent of a hippie-chick outfit that had seen better days. A parrot was circling above her in a holding pattern, and she was trailed by several feline friends whose orange calico markings resembled her own ginger coloring.
I knew whose tragic and fascinating presence I was in.

About the Author:

JoAnn Spears couldn’t decide whether to major in English or History in college. Life stepped in, and she wound up with a Master’s Degree in Nursing instead. A twenty-five year nursing career didn’t extinguish that early interest in books and history-especially Tudor history. It did, however, stoke a decidedly gallows sense of humor.

Eventually, JoAnn read just about every spin there was on the stories of Henry VIII and the extended Tudor family. Every spin, that is, except the one with the gallows humor. The Tudors certainly qualified for it, but it just wasn’t out there. JoAnn decided that with gallows humor to spare, she would do her best to remedy the Tudor comedy gap. A little inspiration from the classic “Wizard of Oz” showed her the way to go, and “Six of One”, a new kind of Tudor novel, was born.

JoAnn thought “Six of One”, her story about Henry VIII’s six wives, would be an only literary child. Then, two years after its birth, she was caught by surprise with the idea for a sequel. In October, 2015, “Seven Will Out” made its debut and bought the latter-day Tudors into the comedy mix.

JoAnn enjoys writing but maintains her nursing license because a) you never stop being a nurse and b) her son thinks she should be sensible and not quit her day job. She also enjoys life in the beautiful mountains of northeast Tennessee, where she gardens, embroiders antique reproduction samplers, and teaches yoga in her Methodist church basement. JoAnn shares her home with three cats and the works of Jane Austen, Barbara Pym, Louisa May Alcott, and of course, Alison Weir.

excerpt

A short time later, a noise in the living room woke me up. I had to blink a few times before I could fully open my eyes but as they opened, I could make out a silhouette standing in the corner of the room. It appeared to be a man, fully dressed in black. “Nate,” I called out, hoping it was him. There was no answer, and his powerful stare seemed to drain my will power.

A cold air rushed through my body just seconds before it went numb. The figure began walking slowly towards me and, had I not known better, I would almost think that he was floating—something like they do in those creepy horror movies.

Please, get it together, Leona. Focus on moving your body and get ready to run.

My phone rang then, and I wanted to pick it up so badly that I could imagine myself doing it. But as much as I tried to, I still couldn’t move anything but my eyes. The closer he got to me, the more desperate I became to get my body to move. I couldn’t take it anymore and I sure as hell wasn’t going to sit by and watch him attack me, so I closed my eyes and started praying that he would just get it over with already. Breaking eye contact did wonders. I could feel my muscles relaxing and a few seconds later, I didn’t feel as drawn to him anymore; I could finally move.

I was just about to make my grand escape when my phone started ringing again and this time, I could turn to see Nathaniel’s name on the Caller ID. I was so glad! I avoided eye contact with whoever was coming my way and answered quickly. “Na-Nate there’s someone in the house with me–” was all I could manage before said person grabbed a hold of me and knocked the phone right out of my hand.

“Be still,” his creepy voice mocked me while I attempted to free myself from his tight grip.

Next thing I heard was the sound of the front door breaking down. Nathaniel burst into the room with his Glock in extended hands. “Let go of her, you son of a bitch!”

Alexandra walked into the living room right after him with a baseball bat in her hand. “What the hell is going on in here?” Her eyes almost popped out of her head when she saw me in the stranger’s clutches. “Let go of her!” she yelled angrily as she took a step towards the man.

The coward took advantage of the situation by pushing me into Nate’s arms and disappeared into the darkness. Alex didn’t waste any time and tried to rush after him, only to be stopped by Nate. “No Alexandra, stay with Leona, and the two of you go check on Alyssa for me.”

Nate was fuming all the way over to Alyssa’s bedroom. “Did he hurt you? Did he touch you? Did you see his face?” I’d never seen him so angry, the man was literally shaking with fury as he told me: “Stay here, okay … I’m gonna go and check out the house.”

I shook my head. “No! Are you crazy? I am not going to leave you out here alone, Nate.”

But it wasn’t up for debate. “I’m serious, Leona, even if you hear anything don’t come out, okay? Please, promise me that you won’t try to interfere; I need you and the girls safe.”

I reluctantly promised him and proceed to knock on Aly’s door … there was no answer. Not wanting to wait for an invitation, I walked in and turned on the lights, and as I did so, the scene in front of me made my heart turn to ice. Alyssa was sound asleep, but there was someone in the room with her. He was standing beside her and was touching and smelling her. He turned his face to look at me and dropped his hand to his side. It was him. Still wrapped up in black clothes and some kind of mask on his face that only showed his eyes and his mouth. He started walking towards me with a creepy grin and the way he did it made my skin crawl.

I screamed. I screamed so loud that my own ears began to whistle. Alyssa woke up in a haze and started screaming alongside me when she saw him. The man stopped in his tracks, turned back around and quickly put one hand around Aly’s neck and the other over her nose and her mouth to stop her from screaming her lungs out.

Alexandra snapped out of her shock and lunged at him with the bat. He ducked and it went straight over his head. Her surprise attack knocked him off balance and he let go of Alyssa before he hit the floor. Before he had the chance to stand up, I jumped on him from behind and started pummeling him with my fists. But he was too big and in seconds, he’d flipped me over and had me pinned.

Alexandra sneaked up on him again, but he sensed the move and yanked the bat from her grip. Screaming, he took a swing at her and cracked her right on the knee with it. She stifled her grimace and pulled a kitchen knife from her back pocket and brandished it in the air. “Let go of her, you bastard!” she yelled.

The intruder smiled and tightened his grip on me. This infuriated Alex even more and she ran at him with the blade. Unable to keep hold of the bat and me, without getting stabbed, he let go of us both and tripped Alex with his foot, causing her to stumble. He took advantage of her fall and grabbed her by both wrists. She tried to struggle out of his grip, but he stole her protection and held the blade against her throat. As he pushed the metal against her skin, Nate appeared with his Glock on the side of the stranger’s head.

“Drop the knife and step away from her. Now!” he ordered.

Praise

My first romance suspense! Felida created a PYT (pretty young thing) in Nate, a young and sexy law enforcer. The heroine Leona goes on such a ride with suspenseful twists and turns, never leaving a dull moment in the journey. The chemistry between Nate and Leona is steamy. The best thing about this book is the way Felida weaves in multicultural characters. You see a little bit of every culture and race. I love it! My best to S.E.! ~ 5 Stars, Love Belvin

S.E Felida Incredible Dreams was “Absolutely Astounding”. It was like watching a movie unfold capturing every scene perfectly. From the amazing plot, to the impressive imagery and visualizations throughout the story “Simply Brilliant”. Incredible Dreams weaves together a mysterious storyline and addresses Leona’s childhood struggles, which leads to her mistrust in men. Meeting Nathaniel the man of her dreams, Leona is instantly enthralled. Nathaniel is the epitome of a soul mate; he is compassionate, sexy, strong and has a beautiful soul. Leona is beautiful, sweet, caring, and loves with her whole heart. The main couple share this intense connection that is beyond words, their souls are connected. You feel their love for each other despite their past and the pain they endured. Leona’s love is an addiction to Nathaniel in its rarest form; their love is completely consuming mind, body and soul. Every character in this story is haunted by their past in some way shape or form, they all have scars that they try to conceal emotionally. Leona, Alyssa, Alexandra and Naomi are true soul sisters that are determined to get through life with each other’s support. Their bond is truly amazing and relatable. Incredible Dreams is romantic, sexy, suspenseful, and highly emotional. It is a story that signifies that we all get second chances at loving and living. S.E Felida, I am beyond speechless how you captured each emotion effortlessly pain, heartache, tragedy, abuse, family friendship and love and turned it into one of the most beautiful stories I have read. Omg the ending off the story took me by surprise, I think I had a mini heart attack but I loved every minute off it. Perfection. Cannot wait to read Book Two Irrational Behavior. ~ 5 Stars, Stracey Charran Ishwar

Wendy's Review: Please Forgive Me by Melissa Hill

6695435

Paperback, 369 pages
Published July 23rd 2009 by Hodder & Stoughton (first published January 1st 2009)

Have you ever dreamed of running away?
Of just leaving the past behind you?

Leonie has done just that. She’s moved to another country and got a new job, a new home, a brand new life. . .

But when she discovers a box of unread love letters in the bottom of her wardrobe, all ending with the words ‘please forgive me’, she finds herself drawn to the mystery behind them.

Can the unravelling of another person’s story help Leonie deal with her own past and her own secrets? All she knows is that she has to try. Because if the couple behind the love letters had a happy ending, then perhaps she just might too.

Really liked this book since it had love and mystery...along with an ocean jumper who lands in America running from her own heartache. The book does have typos but for me I could see past those to the story. The only thing I really wanted to do with this book was grab the letters and read them all right away. The suspense of the letters and what they said killed me!! lol ...there were a couple 'stories' weaved in and that kept me interested and 'guessing' which I personally like. I thought it was a good read and wasn't disappointed.

  excerpt

Prologue

Twitter: That awkward moment when you wake up in jail and you wonder what you did to get there. Then smile. #TripleX

A lone dimly lit light bulb sways gently from the jail cell’s ceiling. It hurts to open my eyes toward it, so I squint to try to ease the pain. A handful of loudly buzzing insects fly wildly around the dull yellow globe and just the sight causes me to scratch at my arms and neck madly. I loathe bugs. And it's like Swarmageddon above my head right now.

Pulling myself up into a sitting position, the throbbing behind my eyes turns sharp and shatters into millions of razor-tipped tiny pieces of glass. I moan as I grab my head in pounding pain. The room spins, and I fall back with a hard thud against the cold concrete wall.

I hear footsteps, heavy and impending, walking along the rough cement of the hallway. I peek through my fingers, but all I can see is the knotted hair of my cellmate, my partner in crime.

The footsteps become louder, closer. Keys are jangling. Someone is whistling, and the screech of the rusty cell door makes scorching bile burn the back of my throat. I swallow twice to keep it down.

"Stone. Zolendz. Up-and-at-'em. Going before the judge," a deep voice bellows. I hate the man instantly.

I believe I moan out some sort of unintelligible sound, but I'm not sure. Who can be sure?

The dull bulb overhead flickers and makes a sizzling sound. Damn, I'm in a place where even the bugs are killing themselves. "Come on ladies, let's go," the voice yells. It's closer now, and the body attached to it starts kicking the wooden bench I'm sitting on. I think my head is going to explode from the vibrations and violent crashes that echo through my head. "What's the matter, not willing to offer up your goods this morning?"

My head snaps up, "Excuse me?"

The man standing over me is older, in his sixties with a long gray beard. His eyes dance with laughter. "Well, Ma'am. That's what you tried to bribe us with last night when we put you in here. Your goooooooods." He kind of shimmies a little and gives a few humps into the air. I vomit a little in my mouth.

"Oh my God. Seriously? Just don't...just don't pay any attention to anything I said, okay?" I mumble my mortification.

"You mean to tell me, you'll be cancelling our hot date tonight?" he laughs, snidely, mocking me. "Come on, Darlin' the judge is waiting on you both. No harm done last night, you both were quite intoxicated."

"Oh God, I think I'm going to be sick." Slowly, I pull myself off the bench, every bone in my body screaming for a few more hours of silently sound sleep. And really, that stupid light bulb is annoying the Hell out of me; someone needs to shoot it.

"Angelisa," I whisper and shake her awake. "Come on. We have to go. A judge wants to see us."

"Blah...Ha. Ha. Very funny. Lemme sleep," Angelisa groans and swats her hand at me. It falls to her side with a loud thwack against the metal rim of the bed.

"I can't. Clear your head and think about last night. Think back. Go ahead," I urge. She doesn't. She remains motionless and silent; all but a small, low snore can be heard. "You seriously need to open your eyes right now, because we're in trouble," I hiss ominously.

Her head slowly turns toward me, eyes blinking open. They dart around the room and widen; a bubble of laughter escapes her lips. "We're in jail, aren't we?"

I smile and join in with her laughter, "We are indeed, waking up together in a jail cell."

"Damn it, I can't go to prison. You know how horrible I look in stripes," she whispers as she climbs up to her feet, grabbing onto my shoulder and using me for leverage.

"Quick," I look around the cell and laugh, "anybody got a cell phone? I wanna take a cellfie."

And we try, we really do try not to fall back down into a fit of giggles, but it's way too hard. We follow the guard down the hallway.

“Dude, I could so be a violent criminal.” Angelisa mumbles. “Shouldn’t you cuff me? Why doesn’t anyone ever want to handcuff me, Chris?” she whines.

“Ummm, she’s not violent. We swear. She’s just…just…dumb.” I explain, nudging her.

“Seriously though, how does he know I’m not packing an oozie in my girly stuff?”

“Ya know that is true. It’s kind of sexist that you don’t think we could be hiding heat?”

“Ladies, the only thing you two are trying to hide…or hide from is good old-fashioned middle age. And quite frankly, neither one of you is doing a bang-bang up job of it,” the son-of-a-slut says, pretending to shoot us.

“Is that what you do now? Shoot blanks?” Angelisa quips, exploding in laughter that spirals out of control until we’re both laughing like lunatics.

“Enough!” he shouts, trying to silence us before we enter the courtroom.

The two of us are still giggling like two immature kids being brought in front of the principal. Matted hair, mascara-streaked cheeks, and barefoot. I’m pretty sure I even have an extra tattoo somewhere.

We're sworn in; big vocabulary is used. Case numbers are brought forth, and I almost fall asleep. I’m just about to face plant into the table with exhaustion when Judge Caroline Jacobson calls both of us up to the podium. "Ms. Zolendz. Ms. Stone. Approach the bench please." She has dark tired brown eyes, the kind that are weighed down with darker brown bags beneath them. Her light blonde hair is pulled back into a tight, painful looking bun. It's streaked with gray. I want to pull out all those restraining pins. I want her to stop feeling so tight and tense behind her bench. I want her to feel free like me, like us.

Almost as if Angelisa’s reading my thoughts, she mumbles, “Man, she needs to get laid…and needs to get those roots done.” I can’t control the giggle that escapes me. The judge eyes us sternly, and you can nearly hear our mouths snap shut.

"As I hear, you both were found in the fountains of the Bellagio last night. Swimming. Naked," she chirps.

"Yes, that's true," Angelisa giggles, proudly next to me.

I nod my head in agreement, "Yeah, that certainly sounds like us—well, the new us, anyway."

The judge pinches her lips into a tight pucker. Doesn't she realize that’s exactly what makes those little wrinkles all around her mouth? She pulls out an envelope marked Prisoner Property/Currency and unfastens the clasp. I suck my lips between my teeth to stop myself from laughing, because this isn't funny—at all. But if I remember correctly, the things in the envelope are.

She slips one dainty little hand in.

Angelisa and I lean forward to watch.

Two books of matches, fifty-six dollars, a bent wedding ring, a fake moustache, a shoehorn, four glow sticks, two “Call for a good time” prostitute cards, a tube of Ben-gay, and an extra large rubbery dildo that flops on its side when she places it on her desk.

"Do you want to explain to me why two fully grown women, respected in their fields, would be caught in this situation…with these items?"

Angelisa and I look and back and forth from her to each other and back again. We both shrug.

"Well, it all started with an apple pie," I smile.

Angelisa nods next to me, "Yes, definitely. That's probably where it all started, the apple pie fiasco."

The judge leans back and draws in a long breath. She pulls her glasses off her fatigued eyes and rubs them softly with her hands. "An apple pie?"

"Yes. A forgotten apple pie. I can tell you every detail except for three or four days where I have no recollection. Both of us can, it's what we do, tell stories."

The corner of the judge's lips curl up the tiniest bit, "Come into my chambers ladies, this I have to hear."
