Veiled by Stacey Rourke

Title: Veiled
Author: Stacey Rourke
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Cover Designer: Wicked Book Covers
Hosted by: Lady Amber’s PR
Blurb:
Political propaganda would have us believe vampires are our friends. Fanged teddy bears misunderstood thanks to archaic lore. Activists picket for them to be welcomed into our society.
They claim vamps don't kill.
They preach we are safe.
They ... are dead wrong.
One year ago a hive slaughtered my family and left me for dead. Found by a team of scientists with their own agenda, I was forged into an unstoppable weapon.
I possess their strength, with none of their weaknesses.
I can move among them free from their crippling hunger.
I am their greatest threat.
Armed with this arsenal, vengeance will feed my desire to penetrate the seedy underbelly of their fetishized lifestyle and expose them for the monsters they truly are.

“Comparing us to aberrant criminals? How do you justify making such a bold leap?”
“With centuries of murders, torture, and feedings!” he exploded, hopping in his seat as if suppressing the urge to leap onto the tabletop and douse me with holy water. “All of these vile acts have been committed under the teachings of your demonic demi-god, Vlad Draculesti. Your immortal Lord Impaler.”
One corner of my mouth tugged back in a knowing smirk. “And no one has ever killed, maimed, or committed genocide in the name of Christ?”
“It’s a sorry argument to use our history against us!”
“Yes, it is!” I vehemently agreed. “And yet that is exactly what humans subject us to. You fault us for the mistakes our kind has made in the past, mocking our deity without truly understanding his teachings. Meanwhile, you fetishize our culture and use it in your foreplay. Statistically speaking, human on human deaths outweigh vampire-on-human deaths twenty-three hundred to one. And why is that? Because humans take their passions too far, while when we pair with a human we focus on building a lasting relationship built on trust, safety, and security.”
“Humans you keep around for feeding and screwing!” my opponent hollered, spittle bubbling in the corners of his mouth. “You’re vicious killers!”
“My apologies to our viewers for that use of inappropriate language,” the prim and poised moderator stated into the camera before fixing her critical gaze on the frothing conservative. “Mayor Donaldson, I again ask you to control these outbursts or we will have no choice but to conclude our debate.”
Before his mouth could open to protest further, I leaned in and caught him with my narrowed gaze. “Show me proof. Where is the recorded documentation of these crimes you’re accusing us of? I tell you what, while you hunt to find that, I will wander into any costume shop or Halloween store and snag a set of fangs and a gothic cape that misrepresent us as night prowling fiends. The so-called facts you are basing your viewpoint on are myths formulated by your own kind to make us these legendary creatures that go bump in the night. Thank you, for granting me more power than I can fathom. That said, you should know I can’t turn into a bat, I spend as much time in front of the mirror as the next gal, and I enjoy a few extra shakes of garlic on my pasta. I’m not a monster, Mayor Donaldson. I am a vampire citizen who wants the same rights you take for granted.”

The Gypsy Thorn by Sherry Rentschler

Book Blurb:

When Atlantis fell into the sea, a single creature survived--a scarlet phoenix. She escaped with ancient man’s historical record, The Great Book of Forgetting. This book recorded mankind’s every legend and prophecy. Only the Archangel of Death understood man’s survival depended on the fulfillment of one particular prophecy, that of the scarlet phoenix.

Rhea is the scarlet phoenix, transmuted into human form with wings of fire. She hides The Great Book from those seeking to steal it and prevent the prophecy. The Archangel befriends and protects her as he watches her traverse time and mold history. She is the proverbial rose that blooms in a future garden.

Jean-Louis Riviere is an aristocrat who became a vampire during the American Revolution. He is haunted by an ill wind whispering strange and incredible possibilities. His family ties will lure those who wish to destroy the prophecy; however, the Archangel also knows his blood is all that will save the rose and secure the future.

Drahomira is a gypsy, a bastard princess, and a vampire. The Archangel of Death chose her to protect the phoenix because she is an irreverent killer but loyal to family. She will journey across continents and be the catalyst that brings Rhea and Jean-Louis together. First, she must leave her people, her throne, and her lover, cross a continent for vengeance, die, and be reborn. Only then will she discover that she is the rose’s legendary thorn in the Evening Bower.

N.W. Moors - Icarus Rising - Virtual Book Tour & Giveaway

Paranormal Romance
Date Published: 9/6/16
Publisher: Sunday Morning Publishing

After his fall to Earth, Icarus has been in Hell, punished for his hubris. When he wins a chance at parole, he's thrilled - except for the set of wings attached to his body.

Eve Gregory runs a small bookstore in northern Connecticut. When she hires the handsome stranger to work for her, she doesn't know the secrets he's hiding. Or that becoming involved with him will embroil her with the Greek gods and goddesses.

Icarus and Eve must perform a quest set down for them by Zeus. If they are successful, will that be end of their relationship? Or will love teach them a new way to soar?

Excerpt
The imp had come to him where he sat on a pile of stones, watching Sisyphus roll his rock uphill unceasingly. Icarus had found that once he was used to his wings, boredom was his biggest torment in Hell. There was nothing to do. He did not delight in the suffering of others, and there was no other entertainment.
The little imp had bowed, then said in a high squeaky voice, "My lord, Hades, wishes you to attend him at once."
Icarus did not react. Better to not let the demon know how astounded he was by the summons. Instead, he stood up and followed the creature through the tunnels and caverns back to Hades' great hall.
He was bewildered when they bypassed the entrance of the Great Hall to instead pass through a tunnel where Hades and Persephone had their private apartments. The Queen of the Underworld was only there six months of the year, but Icarus had seen her from a distance. She was beautiful but sad-looking. Icarus wasn't sure if it were better or worse to be able to leave Hell for six months of the year. Still, it was something different he could spend hours pondering to waste more time.
The imp paused before a door and stepped aside to allow Icarus to enter. He did so with some trepidation and found a comfortable sitting area. There was a table that held the remains of a meal and brightly-colored flowers adorned a vase. Persephone must be in residence.
He waited near the door, sweat running down his back between his feathered appendages. While this room was cooler than most parts of Hell in deference to its Queen, it was still warm. And he was nervous.
Icarus startled when Hades walked into the room from an entrance tucked in a corner. He hummed to himself; the pleasant sound eased some of Icarus' dread.
Hades straightened up and smirked when he saw Icarus. He poured some wine into a goblet and sipped at the cup, licking a red droplet from the rim. He did not offer any to Icarus, who, though dead, still felt his mouth dry in a memory of thirst. Hades found his chair and sat, took another drink, then put the cup down precisely in front of him. He leaned forward and placed his chin on his fist, studying Icarus for a few long minutes. Hades did not speak during the entire performance.
Finally, he crossed his hands over his stomach. "Your father, Daedalus, has asked a boon of my brother, Zeus."
He paused again, obviously enjoying the suspense. Icarus refused to give him the pleasure he sought, so he kept his face impassive and waited, struggling not to give any sign of his shock and curiosity.
Hades rolled his eyes, then continued. "Your father is a favorite of my brother. He has created many amusements for Zeus over the years with his various inventions." Hades shrugged, picked up his goblet, then put the cup back again. He slid a long finger around the rim of the cup, round and round. His behavior made Icarus anxious; it wasn't like the Lord of the Underworld to be so hesitant.
"Your father has requested your parole, and Zeus has decreed that the time for your punishment is over. You have spent over two millennia in Hell with great patience and forbearance. So you are to be released." Hades raised his hand palm out when Icarus gave an involuntary jerk at the words. "There are conditions."
"Yes, my Lord," Icarus croaked. The dryness had spread from his mouth down his throat. There was a roaring in his ears, and Icarus felt like he might heave up the contents of his stomach if there was anything left in his nonliving body.
"You will be returned to Earth as a living being. Athena has agreed to give you knowledge of the modern world to help you assimilate. The manner in which people live today has changed considerably since your previous time on Earth."
"Thank you, my lord." He started to bow but stopped when Hades spoke once more.
"That is not all. Your wings."
Icarus's eyes widened in amazement. If he were to live among men once more, he would not be able to keep his wings. Perhaps Hades thought he would miss them, but it was not so. He hated them, the symbol of his downfall, and couldn't wait to get rid of them. Icarus would gladly give them up. So he was shocked at Hades' next words.
"You will keep the wings as a reminder of your transgression. Accommodation will be made so that the wings fold into your body, but you will have them as a constant memory of your sin against Apollo. It will set you apart from other men, even if only in your own mind. Do you agree to these conditions?"
Icarus did not hesitate. "Yes, my lord." He would reconcile himself to the hated wings for the chance to live as a man once more.
Hades nodded. "Then your father's boon is granted." He flicked a finger, and Icarus was assaulted with pain he had not felt since the wings had been added to his body. He fell to his hands and knees as his back was split once more and the wings folded inside his torso. He trembled with the shock, but the pain continued as his long dormant heart started beating once more. The agony of his body coming back to life was unbelievable, but he bore it. Long minutes passed until the torment finally ceased. He lay on the floor, sweating, and his renewed body ached from its rejuvenation.
When Icarus finally pushed himself up on his knees, Hades spoke again. "You now have what appears to be a long ridge of scar tissue on each side of your spine." Hades shrugged. "Explain them however you please if another human is curious. But the wings will appear when you need them and contract back into their compartments when you have finished with them."
Icarus clenched his fists but finally managed to get his legs underneath him and stood erect. His body felt odd without the weight of the wings dragging at his shoulders. Icarus grimly promised himself that they would never be freed from their compartment unless there was a dire need.

Blurb:

All four books of The Immortals series in one boxset! Book One: The Immortals When demons refuse to play by the rules, all Hell will break loose. Colin and Anna have been hunting demons for a long time. But something is different in Baton Rouge. The rules are being broken and they're powerless against some of the greatest forces Hell can assemble. If they can't stop these demons from manipulating every rule of this war, then Heaven may lose the only battle that's ever really mattered. Book Two: Devil's Thumb After a fateful decision in Baton Rouge, Colin and Anna move to Boulder where they hope they will get some much needed time off from hunting. But the demons who wanted retribution in Baton Rouge have followed them, and this time, they're not alone. Book Three: Garden of the Gods An earth shattering discovery means that the stakes in this battle against Hell are higher than ever for the Immortals, especially for Colin and Anna. When the powerful demons who have been pursuing them are discovered in the Garden of the Gods, it will become a race for survival for the hunters who have now become the hunted. Book Four: Angel's Alley In the final book of The Immortals series, Colin and Anna return to Baton Rouge to confront the demons who are preparing to wage war against Heaven. But they soon learn war isn’t the only thing Hell has planned, and what Colin and Anna stand to lose is far worse than anything they could have imagined.
Read an Excerpt from The Immortals Book One:
Anna put her dress down and moved closer to him. Being an Irishman in London had become even more difficult in the past five years, and Anna knew what a toll it was taking on him. She ran a hand through his silky bronze hair and kissed him. “Are you done with your sewing then?” he asked her, and Anna recognized that tone, that smile. “For now,” she assured him. Just like last time, as Colin kissed her, he vanished, dissipated and the room became dark. But she wasn’t thrown into an eternally black abyss. She was alone in her apartment in Baton Rouge, except all of the windows were bricked, and the door was cemented closed. She pulled on the door handle, twisting and yanking, and when it didn’t give, she tried kicking the door and screaming, but no one came to rescue her. She was trapped. She checked each window for any brick that may have weaknesses and tried knocking them loose, but they were as tightly bonded as whatever was keeping her door closed. She dug around her apartment until she found her cell phone and kept trying to dial Colin’s number, but she couldn’t remember his number. Her contact list was empty. She wanted to call the cops, but her fingers kept pressing the wrong numbers and she’d have to delete them and start over, and as she tried to dial those three simple digits for the tenth time, she heard the scratching at her door. Something was out there. And it hadn’t come to rescue her.
When demons refuse to play the rules, all Hell will break loose.-2
Read an Excerpt from The Garden of Gods Book Three:
“That boss is most likely one of the fallen angels trying to kill us now, but yeah, unless we can figure out who it is, maybe not as helpful as we’d hoped,” Colin agreed. “Draw these markings for me,” Dylan said. “I haven’t seen them.” Colin found a pad of paper and tossed it to Luca who traced the markings down the demons’ backs, careful to keep them in the same order they appeared. Then all of the hunters gathered around Luca’s drawing and studied the sketches, which still didn’t resemble anything concrete. Andrew squinted at the drawings. Colin and Anna watched Andrew. He was suddenly far more interesting than Luca’s drawings on the notepad, because they suspected Andrew had grasped something each of them had missed. “Wait,” Andrew said, grabbing the notepad and turning it upside down. “They’re fairly abstract, but what if these are a locust, a scorpion’s tail, a crown, a lion’s tooth, and an iron breastplate?” Andrew looked up from the notepad because he knew the effect his words would have on the hunters. Luca looked at his sketches again then inhaled sharply. “Holy shit,” he muttered. Dylan looked between them, confused as to the sudden fear that had settled over the room. “What? Why are those things so scary?” Colin forced himself to look away from the drawings, not wanting to believe Andrew was right, but now that he’d pointed out the possibility, he couldn’t not see the markings for what they were. “Because,” Colin answered, “those are the marks of Abaddon. We may be fighting the Devil himself.”

Nick sprang from behind and pounded on the invisible wall. “You crazy bitch! Let my brother go.”
Hades held him back. “You’ll have to excuse him. He’s been going a bit crazy looking for his brother. I’m sure you understand.”
Eris glared and hissed, showing her perfect white teeth. “Don’t be a fool, Nick, or you’ll never see your brother. But he’s not really your brother. Isn’t he just a half-brother? Anyway, I can’t wait to call you brother-in-law. We’ll become one happy family.” She showed off her white teeth but didn’t smile.
Nick covered his ears. “Over my dead body.”
“Now, now. Behave, little one,” she scolded, waving her finger. “Or I just might give you what you wish for. Death is permanent, you know…at least for your kind.”
Nick growled, and light shot from his fingertips. Everett held him back. When Zeus gestured with his hand, Nick stilled.
Zeus focused on Eris again. “Where’s Cronus? Tell him to show himself.” His calm tone sounded confident, but I knew he feared his father.
“Cronus isn’t here.”
“Liar!” Zeus sent the lightning from his staff. It flashed into the invisible wall and burst in brightness, blinding us, but it didn’t penetrate the wall.
Eris laughed, like Zeus had told the funniest joke. “I’m the goddess of my domain. You can’t hurt me here. I call the shots, Zeus. Funny how the roles are reversed. I kind of like that. But don’t worry. You’ll see him soon enough—or not. When I say so. So, would you like to come to my party, or are we going to argue all day?” Eris brushed the side of her hair, smirking. “It’s funny how Zeus is begging to come to my party. It was the other way around before.”
“I’m not begging,” Zeus growled, his eyes crackling with electricity. His rage shook the ground. “You’re forcing me to come. Get this over with before I do something I won’t regret. And to clarify: It wasn’t my wedding. I didn’t send out the invitations, but if I had, I wouldn’t have invited you anyway.”
Eris threw a daggered glare at Zeus and waved her hand. As the invisible wall started to disintegrate, a new world materialized.

Fifteen years ago, Darcy Walker's parents thought it was a good idea to give her a unique name: Darcy, meaning "dark walker." Whether that was a stroke of genius or stroke of stupid, they definitely nailed the irony. She lacks direction, her grades stink despite a high IQ, she's boringly average--although flirting admirers claim otherwise--and God help her, she's infatuated with a bad-boy.

A bad-boy that her hottie best friend, Dylan, wishes would get acquainted with his fist.

And, oh yeah, there's that tattoo that was a royally stupid idea.

With her life spiraling out of control, everything changes when she skips class and finds a dead body...in fact, it gets worse. It jump starts Darcy's inner-verb, and her brain hardwired for action gets caught up in a situation she can’t let go.

Set in the fictional Cincinnati town of Valley, Ohio, Darcy falls into a world of threats, violence, and gangland exploits chasing down every clue to finger the murderer. When a fellow misfit is arrested for the crime, Darcy goes from zero-to-sixty trying to clear his name--constructing aliases, breaking the law, everything that makes perfect sense to her but reeks of Grade A Stupid to everyone else.

Trouble is...will she live to see sixteen?

Two weeks before junior year, Darcy hops a plane to Orlando for a little R&R with her best friend Dylan and his family. Fresh off the heels of solving three murders in Valley, Darcy plans to sit back and enjoy the vacation capital of the world…maybe if you're a noun. Darcy Walker, however, is nothing but verb.

Before her feet hit the Orlando soil, she's meddling in the disappearance of a five-year-old boy who vanished six months earlier.

With authorities still no closer to solving the case, Darcy is shanghaied by her impulsivity and runs headlong into that proverbial burning building, convinced she can bring him home.

She travels down a road that not only follows this missing child but branches off into the corrupt and sinister world of mob activity when she tampers in a case on which Dylan's detective grandfather is working.

After a near disastrous midnight meeting in a warehouse and a date with a mechanical bull, Darcy realizes she might've bitten off more than she can chew. Add the boiling flirtationship with her best friend and the appearance of his romantic rival, and she is in over her head.

Will she survive a life of flirting with death too easily? Or will her flirtationship with Dylan become the actual death of her instead?

For a girl with a habit of finding dead bodies, No Brainer gives Darcy Walker more of the same…surprising twists and turns…and running for her life.

Sometimes life smacks you right in the kisser with a whole lot of ohhhh craaaaap.

Just ask Darcy Walker.

100 Proof Stud picks up four months after No Brainer's cliffhanger ending, and Darcy discovers the aftermath pales in comparison to the crisis her heart is in. All of a sudden it's raining men, and this teenage heroine’s personal life turns her inside out.

Before she can sort out her feelings, she chases a spray-painting vandal and stumbles upon a case of identity theft right in her own backyard. Darcy jumps into the fray headfirst to prove she can hang with the big boys.

But it’s not just to hang…nope, she’s chasing reward money.

Tapping her band of misfit brothers for help, she turns Valley upside down trying to unearth the criminals. Problem is, the cloak and dagger goes high-octane, and she raises the bar on “crazy" in the process.

Bullets ring out…dead bodies appear…and Darcy rubs shoulders with the ultimate sociopath. In the midst of murder and mayhem, will she finally follow her heart or build a fortress of lies around it? Will she even get the chance?

 Book 4

Fisher Stanton, Valley High School's Nantucket wannabe, has a cheating girlfriend. When he hires Darcy Walker to chase her to a local club, in true Darcy fashion she stumbles upon a dead body. Thing is, this body has secrets...and Darcy's mysterious friend, Jaws, and the reporter, Tito Westbrook, have a vested interest. Both enlist Darcy to find the person responsible who has eluded them for years, but Darcy doesn't solve crimes for free anymore--especially where Jaws is concerned. Knowing Darcy's Achilles heel, Jaws blackmails Darcy into working for him.

In a true test of wills, Darcy and Jaws battle head-to-head--Jaws needs Darcy to help him end a bitter grudge war; Darcy needs Jaws to divulge the mystery surrounding her mother's death. Haunted by a past that shapes her present, Darcy will stop at nothing to get answers. Even if it means breaking the law and being disloyal to her new boyfriend, Dylan Taylor, in the process.

DEFCON DARCY gives Darcy's demons a name and ties up loose ends that make Darcy into the verb that she is. What she thinks she knows as truth, isn't. What she wishes wasn't true...is.

The problem is, when your life goes DEFCON 1, not everyone lives to tell about it.

A.J. Lape is the author of the Darcy Walker Series which has stayed on Amazon's teen's mysteries and thrillers bestseller's lists since its debut in 2012. She lives in Cincinnati with her husband, two daughters, an ADD dog, a spoiled hamster, and an unapologetic and unrepentant addiction to Coca-Cola--plus a lifelong love affair with bacon she has no plans to sever.

A graduate of Morehead State University with a Master's degree in Communications, she's a PI wannabe and recently joined the Citizen's Police Academy in her hometown but daily stops crime and kills bad people through the fictional ADHD character of Darcy Walker.

If the FBI ever checks her computer, she'll be wearing prison-orange due to the graphic and disgusting "wiki" articles she looks up...all in the name of career research, of course.
