Review: Playing for Love at Deep Haven by Katy Regnery

ebook, 278 pages
Published January 10th 2014 by Katy Regnery

About the Book

Violet Smith and Zach Aubrey have history…
…the kind of history he regrets and she wishes she could forget.

She was the girl. The only girl. Ever.

Nine years have passed since heavy-metal songwriter, Zach, slept with, then walked away from, his best friend, Violet. But that doesn’t change the fact that he’s never gotten over her.

He shattered her heart.

Despite the years that have passed, chick-lit novelist, Violet, vividly recalls the pain of Zach's rejection, and hates that she's never been able to completely let go of the brooding boy who turned his back on her.

When the rocker and the writer find themselves thrown back together in a strange twist of fate, their chemistry is just as scorching as ever, but old wounds don’t just disappear. Even if Zach can explain why he walked away from Violet, can she find the courage to trust him again? Together they will discover if a love that broke them both is worth a second chance at forever.

Playing songs, playing for keeps…
…Playing for Love at Deep Haven

Candi's Review:

This is my first Katy Regnery book and it is safe to say it will not be my last!!! This book is about second chances. While in college at Yale, Violet and Zach meet and became fast friends. One night changes it all and when Violet says those 3 little words to Zach, he freaks out and runs breaking Vi's heart. Zach quickly figures out he made a mistake but once he goes to try and make things work, he finds that she has moved on with a preppy frat boy named Shep which crushes him. He can't stand to see them together and transfers to Julliard. Fast forward 9 years later and fate brings them back together again.

Violet who is trying to write her second novel and Zach who is trying to write music for heavy metal bands are both struggling with things and just need a break. Turns out, they both end up renting the same rental house in Maine for 2 weeks. Violet is not happy about this at all but when she tries to find another place to stay she finds that everything is booked up until after the weekend. The sparks are still there but Vi tries to push them away and fight it. Zach has already decided that after losing her once he's not letting her get away again. After speaking with a friend on the phone she decides to give Zach a chance to see how things will go. This is when things start to heat up and they sure do heat up fast!! But is it to late? Has it been to many years and have they both changed to much to try? Can Vi learn to trust Zach again? After telling Zach I love you in college, she hasn't been able to say those words to anyone since, can she finally bring herself to say them again?

You will definitely want to read this incredible story and find out!! There will be a second book coming out in fall of 2014 on Zach's twin sister Cora and I can't wait!!
